Second Highest

I understand the highest point in Brooklyn is Battle Hill in Greenwood Cemetery. I haven't been there, but from the picture I saw it appears there's a statue of Athena standing in front of a small building styled like a Greek temple. Fairly grand, and the Goddess of War and Justice seems like a good figure to watch over the city, at least in the context of the Revolutionary War battles fought in these parts of Southern Brooklyn.

This is what you find on the second highest point in Brooklyn, the summit of Mount Prospect in Prospect Park, which also featured heavily in the War.

It is a slight mound of greyish dirt with a small depression in it, like a shallow belly button. Perhaps the site of an occasional illegal pit fire, who knows. No deity stands watching, although if one were chosen I'd say Dionysus or Aphrodite would best suit the wilderness of the mount. Or whatever deity can claim to have Party String within its dominion.

Looking South from the peak.

Where exactly is this? "Mount Prospect" is the smallish public park located between the Botanic Garden and the Bklyn Public Library; it used to have a tower on it (a water tower, I believe). The highest point in Prospect Park proper is at the top of Lookout Hill, where there used to be an old observatory many years ago (like the kind used to spot forest fires); now there's just a circular blank spot in the woods, could well be your photo, and the area is rumored to be a cruising and trysting ground. (I have observed used packets of "personal lubricant" there; might be an interesting mix with the Silly String!)

So it is Lookout Hill?! I was confused. Thank you Brenda from Flatbush. I wonder if it is really second highest.

Your both wrong. Mount Prospect is the highest point in the park, but it was seperated from the main prospect part when they laid through Flatbush Avenue. The mount on the east side of Flatbush was the original focus of the plan for the park, but the plan moved mostly east of whatever political reasons leaving the small park behind the library seemingly separated.

Lookup Hill is the highest point in the main section of Prospect Park
