Sticky Steps at the Totes

The steps of the ailanthus columns which flank the Windsor Terrace entrance to Prospect Park are under siege. I've become aware of this oozy stuff the consistancy of maple syrup drizzled across the steps at the base of the columns, and I think its been there for quite a while. Not only that, but I get the feeling someone comes out and sprays the granite with Pam every night. Any idea what's going on? Does someone want to prevent people from sitting there?
