At extremely low tides, you can walk out on sand and muck to touch the foundation of the bridge.
Hi Matthew. Funny you should mention that, last night I dreamed those footprints you see in the sand meant you could just walk across to Manhattan by walking into the water and across the riverbed. What freedom.
Going through Buttermilk Channel yesterday afternoon on the Water Taxi, I remembered that Whitman claimed to have walked across it to Nutten/Governor's Island back in the day when it was salt meadow and marsh.
Glad to see a different view.. under the bridge... na na na..
