May 13
Yesterday was a perfect day, complete with a rainbow ringing the sun around 4 pm. After all the rain we've been having, I wasn't surprised to see it.
I had just been reading about the miracles of the sun that happened in Fatima, 5 months exactly after the Madonna first appeared to the children Francisco, Jancinta and Lucia on May 13, 1917. There were many different eyewitness accounts that ran in various newspapers as the miracle of the sun was witnessed by 100,000 people. This account ran in the Lisbon Newspaper, O Dia.
"…The silver sun, enveloped in the same gauzy grey light, was seen to whirl and turn in the circle of broken clouds… The light turned a beautiful blue, as if it had come through the stained-glass windows of a cathedral, and spread itself over the people who knelt with outstretched hands… people wept and prayed with uncovered heads, in the presence of a miracle they had awaited. The seconds seemed like hours, so vivid were they."
