Local Feathers

I am pretty sure the one in the middle comes from a Pigeon's tail. The one on the top reminds me of a Blue Jay, and the one on the bottom, I like to think it comes from a Hawk.

I found it in a sidewalk crack on Prospect Park South West and 11th on Monday, the day before my birthday.

Happy belated birthday!

I think you're right: it looks like the outer primary feather of a merlin (falco columbarius). About 5.5 to 6.5 inches long is it?

Thanks.

The feather is 5.75 inches. How does this odd universe sustain a walking library such as yourself? What keeps the books on the shelves when you move around? One thing you've helped me imagine - how the light gets in.

Something I recently learned, that the word columbia derives from the latin for dove, columba. So there you go, the Merlin's another kind of superdove, please forgive the term.

And there's a new used bookstore on Atlantic Ave (between Clinton/Court) that just opened.... umm, catnip!

I'm guessing merlins have that latin name because they eat pigeons.

Sounds like they have a taste for squab. So I guess you are a cat, not a library. Will I ever get it right!?

Have you ever been to Babbo's Books, our local new and used bookstore? We're so lucky young Leonora selected this neighborhood to open it. She hadn't planned to, it just worked out that way.

Is that the bookstore on PPW or whatever it's called south of B-P Square? I have sadly not spent much time there.

and sadly, I haven't been there often enough either.

How nice about the new used bookstore in your neighborhood though. I hope it goes well for them.

I wrote a post once about Leonora's store cat Holly, as in, Holly Go Lightly. She was creating a diversion when I joined a group of buddhists trying to meditate in the store. The Brooklyn buddhists meet their on Sundays mornings. Right across the street from Holy Name, but I haven't joined them in a long time. The transcedentalists hit the spot right now. But what spot is that?

Anyway, it's this post, if you're curious.
