This painting, which is roughly 2 by 3 feet, was inspired by or ripped off a section of a Bosch painting, I think. We bought it last fall on Prospect Park West for 10 bucks, and never regretted it.
These days it brings to mind several ideas I've come across recently, Boehme writing that what we run from, we run towards, and now this from Meister Eckhardt.
A human being has so many skins inside, covering the depths of the heart. We know so many things, but we don't know ourselves! Why, thirty or forty skins or hides, as thick and hard as an ox's or bear's, cover the soul. Go into your own ground and learn to know yourself there.I suppose there's probably a whole book of quotes to this nature. Maybe I could use it to convince the egg to slow down a bit, but it is pretty funny, seeing it go so fast.
