Has Stripes, Will Ride

Look who's been hanging around on my parsley plant at the base of an umbel, getting a bounce whenever the stem bobs in the wind. Look who's so phat and fashionable it makes me want to slap my grandmother in the coming week.

Holy domestic violence, the Gods of Paradox do run this world, don't they? What do they look like? Do they look like this caterpillar, who hasn't budged from this spot in the last two days? No, I think they keep pretty busy keeping everyone in disequalibrium, or else the plague of human arrogance would become even more monstrous than it already is.

Here's a post from another who found these parlsey eaters in the garden. According to the writer, my friend is a black swallowtail caterpillar (Papilio polyxenes; parsleyworm.)

You must admit that that caterpiller has good taste: celery, dill, carrot, and fennel, as well as parsley. Also rue, which might not taste that swell, I'm not sure, not having grown up in Shakespearian times. Perhaps rue is bittersweet.

I admit it! About the rue, I'm not Elizabethan either, but will sample and let you know.
